The design is informed by a consciousness of identity, context and values, expressed, respectively, by the display of the Mexican flag of 1917, the collection of historical artifacts showing the development of Mexican society and the post-revolutionary republic, and finally the values of transparency, strength and flexibility, conveyed in the public sculpture consisting of intersecting planes forming an iconic “X”, the trademark cypher of Architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, the designer the San Lazaro Legislature. This symbol, which alludes to the Maya word “Uxmal” signifying “built or settled three times,” also evokes the three sovereign branches of government of the modern republic.
