The Ondalinda (Pleasant Waves) prospectus initially called for a temporary sunshade over a beach-side bar, but the project soon was expanded to envelope the public plaza where diverse cultural events were held in late 2016. As the heavy steel chains around the perimeter exert dynamic tension on the overhead rope mesh, the design exploits sisal rope and steel chains to create a delightful interplay of catenary curves and surface contours. Combining the skill of craftsmen on site and mastery of digital design techniques, the intervention makes a unique, synergistic statement while define the public space.
